Weekend Trip to Boston: Flights, Bunker Hill and Naval Yard

Roughly a month ago a few college friends of mine told me they would be renting a house in Boston for the weekend and hold a gathering of chats and games and exchanges of cooking skills. Well, that sounds like an exciting way to spend a weekend that’s sure to go down in memories, so of course I’m in.

Knight of Sidonia, A Sci-Fi Animation Series with Little except Good Music

Knight of Sidonia Poster

Knight of Sidonia Poster Season 1 and 2

After destroying Earth many years ago, the alien race Gauna has been pursuing the remnants of humanity—which, having narrowly escaped, fled across the galaxy in a number of giant seed ships. In the year 3394, Nagate Tanikaze surfaces from his lifelong seclusion deep beneath the seed ship Sidonia in search of food on the upper levels, only to find himself dragged into events unfolding without his knowledge.
When the Gauna begin their assault on Sidonia, it’s up to Tanikaze—with the help of his fellow soldiers and friends Shizuka Hoshijiro, Izana Shinatose, and Yuhata Midorikawa—to defend humanity’s last hope for survival, and defeat their alien foes. Sidonia no Kishi follows Tanikaze as he discovers the world that has been above him his entire life, and becomes the hero Sidonia needs.

Terror in Resonance, a Thought-Invoking Animation Series, for Japanese only?

Where shall I start? Maybe from the name itself and the poster. I was spoiled before watching the series that it somehow involved a “nuke”, which is not really my fault cause it’s written in the “Synopsis” part of its Wikipedia page (though not the English version). But even if you are not spoiled, watching the first five minutes of episode one, with the protagonists stealing something from a nuclear plant should convey something similar. Thus by looking at the poster of three protagonists standing in front of twisted metals and buildings on fire, I naturally expected Terror in Resonance to be the story of three protagonists fighting for their lives in some post-apocalyptic world. Well, the skies are blue and some buildings are intact in the poster, so it might be a sanitized version of Mad Max. Well, the title says “Terror in Resonance”, in which the terror must be the nuke, and the resonance must be aftermath of the nuke.

2017 Winter Break: Journey to China

Winter break of 2017.
For reasons out of my control, this could be the only holiday that I could (or at least, willing to) spend with my parents who lived in China, who had been yearning for my visit ever since I left for graduate school in the states. Well, partly that’s because my mom had some major surgeries during the last summer, and I happened to be away during all of them, the oh-it’s-tomorrow-but-I’m-booked-on-flights-today sort. And, it turned out that my winter break would be much longer than I expected. I was looking for a two-week official winter break, only to be told that at University of Maryland, this was followed by another two weeks of winter semester, during which nothing happens. So to forward goodwill with my mom, and to bring to the states all my online shoppings of 2017 (I know two checked bags for my first trip were never enough for years of study), I decided to spend this winter break in China.
