First day of my April 2021 southern California trip. I would spend the entire day visiting Joshua Tree National Park, taking a few popular hiking trails like Hidden Valley, Ryan Mountain and Lost Palm Oasis.
April 2021. Lured by surprisingly low air fares, I took a long weekend flying across the continent to Los Angeles visiting Joshua Tree National Park. This is the outbound flight segment where I flew Alaska from Washington Reagan to Los Angeles. The weather’s so great in the mountain states that it turned out to be the most scenic flight I’d ever taken.
Mid February, 2021, the last of the season’s snow fell in the mid-Atlantic region. I’d seen quite enough snow this winter, but since it’s weekend, I still decided to take on some hiking in the wild. This time, I picked Sky Meadows State Park in Virginia.
Snow seemed to frequent mid-Atlantic region a lot more often for the winter of 2020-21. After some snowfall early February, I was again allured by nature covered in white. This time, I headed for Patapsco Valley State Park outside Baltimore.
The last day of my 2020 Lake Tahoe trip as I would be flying back from Reno to Washington DC, with a connection in Los Angeles.
Sixth and final day of my Lake Tahoe trip. With most roads into Lake Tahoe still covered in snow, I confined my activities to the city of Reno for the day. I hiked a popular trail, Hunter Creek, in the morning and visited National Automobile Museum in the afternoon.
Fifth day of my Lake Tahoe trip. Weather forecast indicated a storm was coming to Lake Tahoe region. Before that storm hit, I visited North Lake Tahoe and Donner Pass, before checking into another hotel in Reno for my final two nights.
Fourth day of my Lake Tahoe trip. I would be snowshoeing to the summit of Mount Rose today. At 3285m elevation, it’s the highest mountain near Lake Tahoe in Nevada (third highest overall). It ended up being a grueling day hike from dawn to dusk, but I made it.
Third day of my Lake Tahoe trip. I decided to snowshoe to Rose Knob Peak on the Nevada side of the lake today.
The second day of my 2021 Lake Tahoe trip, I ended up snowshoeing to Maggies Peak, followed by a brief tour of Emerald Bay State Park.
